Since its grand opening in 2007, Winvian Farm, a AAA Five Diamond and Relais & Chateaux resort, has become a mainstay of the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. Now, complementing its stunning accommodations, exceptional restaurant, and working organic farm is the art work of Stony Creek, CT-based artist, Sandra Vlock, whose one-of-a-kind “Fireballs”—functional fine art she describes as the“contemporary campfire”— were recently installed on the property’s grounds.
Ms. Vlock, a well-known Connecticut architect by trade, designs Fireballs, which are elaborately hand-crafted fire pits repurposed from vintage steel mooring buoys. Two Fireball installations were unveiled at Winvian Farm last month, just in time to welcome the fall foliage and winter chill. The Fireballs feature a small size, 28 inch diameter, that welcomes guests on the upper terrace. It is portable enough to be relocated around the property during outdoor gatherings. The other Fireball is a commanding 58 inch diameter showpiece that now resides in one of Winvian Farm’s signature meadows, and is surrounded by Adirondack chairs where guests can enjoy aprés dinner aperitifs and afternoon hot chocolate.
Ms. Vlock approached Winvian Farm about her Fireballs when visiting as a guest. While exploring the property’s remarkable grounds and setting in the Litchfield Hills, Vlock imagined how the allure of fire and interactive nature of her Fireballs could enhance the uniqueness of the Winvian experience—where the outdoor environment is the focal point. “People come here for the experience. The setting inspires a connection to the land with opportunities for casual gathering and simple outdoor pleasures.” She immediately felt that this would be a stunning backdrop to showcase her works of art.
Winvian Farm, an oasis of 113 acres in the rolling Litchfield Hills, is a recent winner of Condé Nast Traveler’s 2015 Reader’s Choice Awards and was recognized as a Top 100 Resort in the World, Top 25 US Hotel & Resort, and a Top 20 New England Resort.
Special amenities at Winvian Farm include a 5,000 square foot spa, an events barn ideal for weddings and special events, a professional kitchen for private cooking classes, and a new luxe swimming pool overlooking the gardens and meadow. Winvian Farm is located two hours from New York City, two and half hours from Boston and one hour from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport. Nightly rates range from $459-$1499 and vary depending on season and day of travel.
