The history of Islamorada, a tiny island of 11 acres in the Florida Keys, has a colorful maritime story dating back to the early 1500s. Most notably, the wrecked Spanish treasure fleets on its reefs. The goods and booty salvaged from these vessels gave rise to a thriving ‘wrecking industry.’
